A seemingly abandoned Island lays slumbering in the sea, shrouded by a thick veil of mist and untouched by time. It is where ancient giants roam free and men live their lives in constant peril. Welcome to Chrysalis, where nothing is sure.

The people of the isle have long walked the coasts and forests, wondering about the origins of the many hidden ruins they uncovered. Many thousands of years have passed since these mighty beings disappeared from the island, leaving nothing but mystery and questions. A giant flying island floats high in the sky, a testament of their great magical skills. This island casts her shadow upon the lands below her, where ancient beasts still prowl long after their masters have gone.

We know these ancient people only as “Those Who Were”, for all their names and knowledge has been blown away by the winds of change. Now only their monsters remain, thirsty for blood and always hungry. They left us to hide in their ruins and abandoned temples, arming ourselves against the tyrants of the land, sky and sea. Though we have found allies amongst the scaly, feathered and fearsome; our lives are perilous. We are always fighting to stay alive, and working to build better and stronger homes.

Our lives might not be easy, but they are; we live, and we live worthy lives at that.

What did the ancient beings know that we don’t, that they could once be such a thriving civilization? Our greatest city is but a shambling hut compared to the size of their own wasted cities. I have heard people gossip about a shadow, a whisper. Some ghost or specter that speaks to us in our dreams… He foretells of our greatest troubles; of dragons, fire and blood. We know not who or what he is, only that he Is. Therefore, he is the “One Who Is”.

The bravest amongst us go out and explore the treacherous woods and swamps, seeking for answers about those who came before us. Who were they? Where did they go?
